Main Character Books is an independent, women-owned bookshop in London’s Spitalfields, specialising in romance, romantasy and fantasy literature. It’s an inclusive space for all readers, hosting book clubs and author meet-ups.
Part bookshop, part community café & bar, the space needs to be able to quickly transform from everyday browsing to large events. The design is highly flexible: bespoke displays on hidden wheels can be easily moved, freeing up floor space for gatherings. Benches, which during the day are an invisible part of the shelving system, can be easily used during events. The result is a lively, welcoming clubhouse for this incredible London community.
